O'Dowd Debate's parliamentary debaters dominated the 53-team field at the September 21-22 Yale University Invitational hosted by the Yale Debate Association. Two O'Dowd teams, Caitlin Walsh & Marco Zepeda and Shawn Cunningham & Tara Viviani, met in the final round with Cunningham & Viviani successfully affirming the resolution "This house would establish exclusive schools for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) students" to take the tournament's top prize on a 3-2 split decision adjudicated by members of Yale's parliamentary debate team.

Walsh & Zepeda completed prelims with a perfect 5-0 record, held the third seed, and received a bye to quarters. In the partial-octafinal round O'Dowd's Perl & Yang dropped to San Ramon's Dougherty Valley High School (3-0) while Walsh & Zepeda bested Oregon's Lake Oswego High School in quarters (3-0) and Connecticut's New Canaan High School in semis (2-1). Cunningham & Viviani defeated Connecticut's Wilton High School in the octafinals (2-1), Pennsylvania's Shady Side Academy in quarters (3-0), and Connecticut's Simsbury High School in semis (2-1) before claiming victory over their highly decorated teammates in the final round.
