The first major invitational of the new year is Claremont High School’s Annual Wolfpack Invitational. The two day tournament will take place this weekend, on January 9-10.
Drawing in some of the best teams in Southern California, as well as some out-of-area teams, the tournament features a substantial field size of 50 teams, and is expected to break to octafinals. One team to possibly look out for is iLEAD North Hollywood’s Kate Farwell and Eric Culhane. Farwell is one-half of the current first place team in the POI rankings. Another is Los Altos's Spencer Dembner and Lily Hackworth, who are. Dembner is one-half of the current second place team and was ranked second as as individual in last year's rankings. His partner Hackworth was ranked 11th. Finally, the third place team in this year's rankings, Evergreen's Basil Abushama and Nadia Cochinwala, will also be attending.
The Wolfpack Invitational is known for its strong competition. The tournament will allow internet prep, so be prepared for some invigorating topics. It’s going to be cold in the city of trees and PhDs this weekend, so competitors should be sure to pack a warm coat.
