Bishop O'Dowd Walsh & Zepeda make history as first team to repeat as POI National Champions

Bishop O'Dowd Walsh & Zepeda made POI history as the first team to repeat as the POI National Champion by finishing first in the 2013-2014 POI rankings with 42.45 points. Coming in an extremely close second was Dougherty Valley Konath & Wang with 40.75 points. Rounding out the top-five are Cleveland High School (Region 5) duo Schwartz & Williams-Thomas (35.6), PV Peninsula Chang & Foltz (34.35), and Lowell Chen & Cunningham (31.275). Walsh & Zepeda and Konath & Wang squared off in two of the biggest and most meaningful rounds of the parliamentary debate season with Konath & Wang dropping Walsh & Zepeda on a 4-1 decision in the National Parliamentary Debate Invitational at Bishop O'Dowd with Walsh & Zepeda returning the favor on a 10-1 split in the final round of the Parliamentary Debate Tournament of Champions. The O'Dowd WZ and Dougherty Valley KW rivalry will be remembered as one of the best in POI history.

Bishop O'Dowd High School also had the honor of finishing atop the POI Club Rankings for the fourth consecutive year with 232.5 points. Coming in second was Oregon powerhouse Lake Oswego with 175.5 points. Oxford Academy placed third with 123 points, followed by Claremont with 108.5 and Carlsbad with 108 points.
